Nepal in the semi-finals by winning over Malaysia

Kathmandu:- After defeating Malaysia by 6 wickets, Nepal entered the semi-finals of the ICC T20 World Cup on Tuesday.

By winning two consecutive victories in Group 'A', Nepal secured a place in the semi-finals before the last match of the group.


With Nepal entering the semi-finals, Oman, the other team in the group, also secured a place in the last four. Both Nepal and Oman defeated Malaysia and Singapore and made it to the last four. Malaysia and Singapore were eliminated before the final match.

Now the group winner will be decided by the match between Nepal and Oman on Thursday.


Nepal completed the target of 166 runs given by Malaysia at the TU Ground in Kirtipur on Tuesday with the loss of 4 wickets in 18 overs.

This target is the highest score achieved by Nepal in T20 International so far. Earlier, Nepal completed the target of 165 runs against UAE last week.

Kushal Malla scored a half-century in Nepal's victory. He hit 2 fours and 7 sixes in 34 balls while contributing 65 runs.

Before that, opener Kushal Bhurtel was dismissed after scoring 43 runs. He hit 4 fours and 4 sixes off 25 balls before being dismissed in 5.3 overs.

Another opener Asif Shaikh scored 32 runs off 23 balls with the help of 1 four and 2 sixes. Captain Rohit Paudel could add only 2 runs. Sandeep Zora scored 18 runs not out and Bibek Yadav added 2 runs not out.

After winning the toss and batting first, Malaysia scored 165 runs for the loss of 9 wickets.

Malaysia got off to a great start and scored 60 runs for the loss of 1 wicket in the power play. After that, Nepal tried to stop Malaysia's run.


Abhinash Bohra took the first wicket for Nepal in 5.5 overs. He caught Malaysian opening batsman Zubaidi Zulkifi for 24 off Kushal Malla for 24.

In the next over, Nepal ran out Malaysian captain Ahmad Faiz for 3 runs. He was run out by the wicketkeeper Asif on Karan KC's throw, who was in the process of getting two runs.


Sandeep Lamichhane then bowled Virandeep Singh lbw for 4 runs. Captain Rohit Paudel caught Sharvin Muniyandi for 13 runs. Before that, Rohit had spent 15 runs in five balls.


In the 14th over, Gulsan Jha scored 68 runs and caught opener Syed Aziz off Kushal Bhurtel. He scored the most runs for Malaysia, hitting 8 fours and 2 sixes off 49 balls. Gulsan Jha also bowled the ball to wicketkeeper Asif to run out Ainul Afiz.

In the 18th over, Abhinash bowled Mohammad Amir for 8 runs. In the last over, Abinash caught Sajrul Idrus off Kushal Bhurtel for 7 runs and bowled Fitri Sham for 6 runs.

Abhinash Bohra of Nepal took 4 wickets in bowling. Abhinash spent 27 runs in 4 overs. Sandeep Lamichhane, Gulsan Jha and Rohit Poudel took 1 wicket each.

The two teams that reach the finals of the tournament by winning the semi-finals will play in the T20 World Cup next year to be held in America and West Indies.
