Kathmandu: Nepal has made a bad start in the inaugural edition of the U-18 Women's Championship.
In the match held in Jamdeshpur, India on Tuesday night, Nepal was strengthened by the host India by a wide margin of 7-0.
Nepal had conceded three goals in the first half. India took the lead in the 17th minute of the match. Priyanka Sujish scored the first goal for her. Three minutes later, Linda Kom Sarto doubled the lead.
Linda scored her second individual goal in the 37th minute to give India a 3-0 lead in the first half.
Apurna scored the fourth goal in the 74th minute while Purnima scored the fifth goal in the 81st minute. Sunita Munda scored the sixth goal in the 89th minute and Nitu Linda scored the seventh goal in the third minute of injury time.
Three teams including India, Nepal and Bangladesh have participated in the competition.
Nepal will play its second match against Bangladesh on Thursday.
Nepal is scheduled to play India again on March 21 and Bangladesh on March 23.
The top team will win the title. Darshan Bhakta Raj Lawat is the head coach of the Nepali team. While Bhagwati Thapa is the assistant coach of the team, Sriprakash Vaidya is the goalkeeping coach.
The Nepali team that lost to India in the semi-finals of the first tournament in Bhutan in 2018 was deprived of the title after losing to Bangladesh in the final.
