Negredo scored in the injury time of the first half to level the game 1–1.
Rodrigo de Paul scored in the 68th minute to give Atletico the lead again. With the last 2 minutes left in the game, the home team was down to 10 players of Atleti.
After Javier Serrano fouled Alex Fernandez, the referee sent him off the field with a straight red card.
With this victory, the third-ranked Atletico Madrid has reached 51 points from 28 games. Atletico are three points behind Barcelona, who have played two games less.
Second-placed Sevilla are four points ahead of Athletico. Top-ranked Real Madrid has 63 points. Cadiz, who lost to Athletico, is in 18th place with 24 points.
